What Is A "Super Food"?

So what exactly is a super food and why are they important for vibrant health?

Super foods are foods that are so dense with nutrients that they have the ability to support life.

Every day we take steps in our life that either keep us in perfect health and balance, or throw us on a downward spiral.

It doesn’t happen over night or consist of one single bad step; it’s a series of bad choices over a period of time – too much stress, poor eating habits and junk food, cigarettes, alcohol and/or drugs, air and water pollution – which results in pollution within the body.

stress-and-free-radicals

That’s why it’s important to incorporate antioxidant superfood into your diet, particularly when you’re under stress, to help protect your body from the damaging effects of free radicals.

When you put living super food into your body it results in energy and vitality, but when you put dead foods in your body it results in decay and dis-ease of cells.

And that’s the reason most vitamins and minerals being sold today don’t work. Most are manmade, isolated chemical combinations that are inorganic and have no life force.

The body treats inorganic substances as toxic and eliminates them – that’s expensive waste – so any nutritional supplement you take must be in food state.

Super Food as Medicine

Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine said over two and a half thousand years ago...

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

It’s a sad fact that today’s medical professionals hardly work with diet at all, choosing instead to prescribe drugs designed to right the wrongs of decades of body mismanagement.

Do you know that to achieve and maintain vibrant health you need over 100 different nutrients a day but most people are only receiving somewhere between 20 to 24 nutrients each day?

What are the Best Super Foods?

Grasses such as barley and wheat grass, along with alfalfa and algaes, are the richest sources of chlorophyll on the planet. Chlorophyll is the blood of the plant and is extremely rich in nutrients.

It also has a molecular structure very similar to the haemoglobin of human blood and has the unique ability to be absorbed directly through the mucous membranes; especially the nose, throat and digestive tract.

E. Bircher, the famous research scientist, called chlorophyll “concentrated sun power” and said:

“Chlorophyll increases the function of the heart, affects the vascular system, the intestines, the uterus and the lungs.

It raises the basic nitrogen exchange and is therefore a tonic which, considering its stimulating properties, cannot be compared with any other.”

Antioxidant Superfood

Here are just a few antioxidant antiaging superfoods.

Barley and Wheat Grass also contains an abundance of phytonutrient pigments such as alpha-carotene and beta-carotene, xanthophylls and zeaxanthin and they are both rich sources of superoxide dismutase (SOD), a powerful antioxidant antiaging enzyme.

Raw Cacao (chocolate)contains antioxidants catechin, epicatechin and gallic acid, as well as the mineral magnesium and provides more than 21 times the free radical protection of green tea.

super-foodBlueberriescontain anthocyanins which are flavonoids and in one study were found to have the strongest antioxidant power of 150 flavonoids tested.

Goji Berries, the ‘red diamond’ of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2000 years, contains carotenoid antioxidants, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, cryptoxanthin and xanthophyll.

Acai Berries contain anthocyanins at 10-30 times the concentration of red wine.

Strawberries are a rich source of quercetin, ellagic acid and anthocyanins.  Quercetin has been shown to protect colon, breast, ovarian and gastrointestinal cells against cancer growth.

Raspberries contain ellagic acid which has been shown to reduce heart disease, birth defects, liver problems, and promote wound healing.  Ellagic acid seems to have some anti-cancer properties and has been found to cause death in cancer cells in the lab.

Coffee Berry or the coffee fruit contains antioxidant polyphenols, chlorogenic, caffeic and ferulic acid.

Pomegranates contain punicalagins and ellagic acid.  Research suggests that pomegranate may be beneficial for atherosclerosis, heart disease, osteoarthritis and prostate cancer.

Olive Juice contains hydroxytyrosol, a polyphenol. Hydroxytyrosol has the highest level of antioxidants ever reported for any natural compound! Olive juice contains up to 300 times more polyphenols than olive oil.

Dunaliella Salina is a marine microalgae that is the richest known source of dietary carotenoids. Dunaliella Salina contains alpha and beta carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin.

The combination of carotenoids and green chlorophyll give Dunaliella Salina its orange-red colour.

Carotenoids have antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic and immune enhancing properties and may help to protect against premature ageing, cataracts, cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases.

Super Food: Conclusion

Just one organic wholefood can contain thousands and thousands of phytonutrients so it makes sense to support your body with the life force of living super foods.

The body is the greatest alchemist in the world and has the ability to make whatever it needs if the raw materials are present in the bloodstream. That is why all nutrient supplementation should be done with living foods.

And of course it should also be certified organic so you know it truly is the best on the market, free from all genetically modified organisms (gmos) and synthetic chemicals.
