What is Monosodium Glutamate?

Monosodium glutamate is also known as sodium glutamate or MSG. It is one of the common food additives marketed as a flavor enhancer and, along with Aspartame, is one of those harmful food additives you should avoid.

It is frequently used in Chinese foods as well as other processed foods like stock cubes, tinned meats and packaged and tinned soups.

While it may improve or enhance the flavour of food, be aware that it may also have a detrimental effect on your health too.

The Dangers of Monosodium Glutamate

MSG is a highly toxic chemical that has been approved and allowed into our foods. It is a neurotoxin or nerve irritator that has been linked to conditions such as headaches and migraines, nausea, mood changes, asthma and dry mouth to name just a few.

It was originally used to make rats fat in order to study the effects of obesity in rats, but the food giants really took notice when the rats started to become addicted to the foods laced with this chemical.

Now keeping in mind that its original purpose was to make lab rats fat, is it any wonder that a large percentage of the population are obese and addicted to foods that are laced with this chemical.

Of course manufacturers don’t want you to know they are adding it to foods so they disguise it by calling it different names.

Other Names for MSG

  • Additive number 621
  • Hydrolysed vegetable protein
  • Plant protein extract
  • Yeast extract
  • Textured protein
  • Flavouring

Are you unknowingly consuming this and other harmful food additives? Always check the labels on the foods you buy to make sure!

Here is the first in a series of a 4-part report on its dangers and in part 3 they say:

"MSG damages blood vessels with substances known as free radicals that can lead to clogged arteries and blood clots. Consuming it every day means you're constantly increasing the free radical generation inside the walls of the blood vessels and that's how most heart attacks and strokes come about".
