Meridian Tapping Helps Alleviate Stress

Meridian tapping is based on the principles of acupuncture but without needles and it's a simple process you can use when you're stressed or upset about something.

Stress and strong negative emotions and feelings affect everyone, sometimes on a daily basis, and according to Chinese Medicine, there is a very strong link between health and disease and your emotions.

Emotional health is absolutely essential to your physical health. It is impossible to have one without the other.

It doesn't matter how devoted you are to diet and lifestyle, you won't achieve your body's ideal healing and preventative powers if emotional barriers stand in your way.

And that's where these self-help tapping techniques can help.

Stress and negative emotions can show up in the body in a variety of ways but they are easily eliminated once you've learned this simple process.

In fact, results can be quite surprising because it often works where nothing else will.

Where Did Meridian Tapping Begin

Probably the most popular and easiest to learn is EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques.

EFT is based on the theory that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy or meridian system. eft Gary Craig

The founder of EFT, Gary Craig is a Stanford Engineer and personal performance coach who studied TFT or Thought Field Therapy with Roger Callahan, a clinical psychologist based in California, in the early 1990's.

Thought Field Therapy was the first technique that used meridian tapping on the acupuncture points to balance the energy meridians.

After experimenting with this technique for a while, Gary found that the sequence of the points really didn't matter.

Gary simplified the whole process and EFT was born.

EFT Tapping Sequence

  • The first step is to "tune into the problem" by thinking about it.
  • Notice where is it showing up in your body e.g. headache, sickness in the stomach etc, and how intense is it from 1 to 10 (10 is as bad as it can be)
  • What emotions are present e.g. anger, frustration, disappointment and how intense are they from 1 to 10 (10 is as bad as it can be)
  • Next craft a set-up statement that describes your problem e.g. "Even though I have this pounding headache I accept how I feel", or "Even though I'm so angry at [who] for what he/she said/did, I accept my feelings anyway"
  • Repeat your set-up statement three times while you tap continuously on the karate chop point.
  • Now tap through each of the EFT tapping points about 5-7 times at each point as you repeat a reminder phrase to keep you "tuned into the problem" e.g. this headache or this anger

The EFT Tapping Points:

  • Beginning of the eyebrow

  • Side of the eye

  • Under the eye

  • Under the nose

  • Chin

  • Collarbone

  • Under the arm

  • Top of the head

Do two complete rounds of EFT tapping and then reassess your intensity levels. If you're not at a zero, repeat the whole process again, but this time add the word "remaining" to the set-up statement e.g.

"Even though I still have this remaining headache I accept how I feel etc.

The reminder phrase to tap in at each point would be "remaining headache" etc.

Continue until you are at a zero or you just can't think about the problem any more.

Happy meridian tapping!
