Aspartame
A Dangerous Food Additive To Avoid

Like MSG, aspartame (951) is also an excitotoxin and it's use is escalating at an alarming rate. It is an artificial sweetener that is considered by many to be one of the most dangerous food additives on the market.

As an artificial sweetener you may make the mistake of believing it is only present in diet foods and drinks. Don't be fooled; it's not. It is now commonly found in yoghurts, desserts, fruit juices and cordials, instant coffee drinks, snacks, mints and would you believe even in sausages and rice crackers.

It is also one of those harmful food additives that is still widely permitted with no warning label required despite the fact that it accounts for over 75% of adverse reactions reported to the US Food and Drug Administration.

Adverse Reactions And Symptoms

In fact, the following symptoms and ailments were detailed in a 1994 report by the Department of Health and Human Services:

  • headaches and migraines
  • dizziness or vertigo
  • seizures
  • numbness
  • rashes
  • fatigue
  • irritability
  • depression
  • vision problems
  • hearing loss
  • heart palpitations
  • breathing difficulties
  • slurred speech
  • tinnitus
  • memory loss
  • joint pain

It is made up of 50% phenylalanine, an amino acid normally found in the brain. An excess of phenylalanine can cause a decrease of serotonin in the brain which may contribute to depression and other emotional disorders.

It is also linked to brain cancer and tumors.

In 2005 scientists in Italy at the Ramizzini Institute for Cancer Research published alarming results from a comprehensive study which confirmed it caused lymphomas and leukaemia in female animals which were fed doses very close to the acceptable daily intake set for humans!

It makes you wonder why such a dangerous food additive is still on the market and becoming more and more widespread.
